Miles Maiberger wins PMS’s annual National Geographic Bee for second year running

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Pelham School District.

For the second straight year, eighth grader Miles Maiberger won Pelham Middle School’s annual National Geographic Bee with seventh grader Milan Otondi and sixth grader Benjamin Sasson finishing in second and third place, respectively.

Miles will now take a written test that is given to school winners across New York state, with the top 100 scorers advancing to the state competition in Albany. Miles had advanced to the state competition last year.

Each year, all sixth, seventh and eighth graders participate at the classroom level in social studies with each class winner then competing for the school crown. In the competition, students are asked questions about different locations around the globe. Sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the experience is designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world.

Each year, thousands of schools across the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee, competing for college scholarships and the glory of being the National Geographic Bee Champion.
