Lilly Hecker, former children’s services librarian at the Town of Pelham Public Library, died peacefully at home Tuesday with her husband, Sid, by her side, the library said on its website.

“Miss Lilly, as she was known to many Pelham children, worked at the library for most of its history, joining the staff in 2003 and retiring in 2017,” the library said.

She was the library’s first children’s librarian and largely responsible for building the children’s collection and programs. “She led countless Story Times and other children’s programs, oversaw the Summer Reading Program and coached several teams in the annual Battle of the Books.”

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday at Temple Bet Am Shalom, 295 Soundview Ave., White Plains, New York.

“Her family and friends are in our thoughts.” the library said.
