Officer Hearle and Officer O’Connor

On October 10, 2018 at 3:09 AM, Officer Hearle, while off duty, observed a vehicle stop at the mailbox located directly in front of the Post Office.  PO Hearle took notice, as a rash of larcenies from that specific mailbox had occurred recently. PO Hearle observed 3 male suspects exit the vehicle and remove a duffle bag from the trunk of their vehicle.  As 2 suspects attempted to enter the mailbox with a stolen postal key, the third party sat in the driver’s seat waiting.  At that time PO Hearle called headquarters and advised of the larceny in progress.  As Pelham units quickly arrived, the 2 suspects at the mailbox were detained by PO O’Connor, and the driver of the vehicle took off.  PO O’Connor was also able to give out a description of the suspect vehicle that fled the scene.  Approximately 3 hours later PO O’Connor was able to affect a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and arrest the third suspect.

All three suspect were charged with felonious possession of stolen property.

For their actions, Officer Hearle is awarded with a Meritorious Police Duty First Class and Officer O’Connor with a Meritorious Police Duty Third Class Award.

Sergeant Sheehy

On July 26, 2018 at 6:48PM Sergeant Sheehy was dispatched to an aided case involving a female victim who appeared to be in distress.  Upon Sergeant Sheehy’s arrival he observed the victim was having an asthma attack and radioed for medical assistance.  While Sergeant Sheehy was obtaining pedigree information from the victim, he observed her to be in possession of a black Kyocera cell phone which was sticking out of her purse.   Sergeant Sheehy immediately recognized this property had been stolen from a local cab company less than a week earlier.   Through his vigilance and attention to detail, Sergeant Sheehy was able to assess a medical emergency while simultaneously recognizing stolen property from a previous call within the Village.  The suspect was later arrested and charged for both a larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

For his actions, Sergeant Sheehy is awarded with a Meritorious Police Duty Second Class Award.

Officer O’Connor 

On July 2, 2018 at 1:17PM Officer O’Connor was dispatched to a call at 124 Pelhamdale Avenue on a report of a car alarm going off.   Officer O’Connor was then informed by headquarters that a male suspect was observed in the driveway of 110 Pelhamdale Avenue, entering a parked vehicle.  Officer O’Connor canvassed the area between Highbrook and Pelhamdale Avenue on First Street when he observed a male suspect, matching the description, run out of the bushes.  A short foot pursuit ensued, with the suspect ultimately running into the back yard of 111 Highbrook Avenue.  Officer gave chase and was able to locate the suspect hiding between a tree and the fence in the backyard.  Officer O’Connor arrested the suspect and recovered numerous stolen articles on the suspect’s person.  The suspect was charged with Trespass, Obstructing Government Administration,  Larceny and Criminal Possession of stolen Property.

For his actions Officer O’Connor is awarded with a Meritorious Police Duty Third Class Award.

Sergeant Sheehy and Officer Hearle

On October 30, 2018 at 9:23PM Sergeant Sheehy was on patrol and observed a male party walking past the residence at 212 First Avenue, who was known to have an active warrant for his arrest.  The suspect has also been a flight risk in the past.  Sergeant Sheehy notified the rest of the tour. Officer Hearle responded and they approached the suspect and advised him he was under arrest.  The suspect took off in an effort to escape.  Both officers pursued.  After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested.  A search incidental to a lawful arrest did yield 23 clear plastic bags of marijuana.  In addition to the arrest for the active warrant, the suspect was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting arrest and Criminal Possession of Marijuana-weight over 25 grams.

For their actions, Sergeant Sheehy and Officer Hearle are awarded with Honorable Mention Awards.
