Week of July 25 – 29, 2018

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25

Tibbetts Brook Park, Midland Avenue, Yonkers – (914) 231-2865
Public Safety Day – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Find out what our local heroes do to keep your family safe every day. Rain date: July 26.

Saxon Woods Pool, Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains — (914) 995-4480
Family Film Frenzy Movie Night: Paddington (PG-2017) – 7 p.m.
After-hours swim followed by a great family movie at dusk. Fee $5 per person (free for children under 5). Admission wristbands go on sale the day of the event at the park. Rain date: July 26.

FRIDAY, JULY 27

Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Route 35 and 121 South, Cross River – (914) 864-7322
Sixth Annual Firefly Festival – 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Bring a flashlight and watch this amazing show, along with a fire and s’mores. Meet at the end of Michigan Road.

Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers – (914) 864-7268
Music in the Park: ABCs of Jazz – 7 p.m. – 9p.m.
Tickets $10 for all ages; purchase at the door. Gates open 5 p.m. Refreshments available for purchase. see lasdonpark.org for more information.

Playland Park, Playland Parkway, Rye – (914) 813-7010
Big Band on the Boardwalk – 7:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Dance to the music of the Big Band Era with the Playland Orchestra. Parking fee. Also 8/3; rain date 8/10.

Fireworks Fridays – 9:15 p.m.
Enjoy fireworks choreographed to patriotic music every Friday through August 31. Go to playlandpark.org for a complete schedule and fees.

SATURDAY, JULY 28

Nature Scavenger Hunt – 10 a.m. – Noon
Sharpen your observation skills during a self-guided scavenger hunt using our nature checklist and map.

Willson’s Woods Park, East Lincoln Avenue, Mount Vernon – (914) 813-6990
Family Fun Day – Noon – 4 p.m.
Music, dance, fun and games all afternoon. Free admission with pool fee. Rain date: July 29.

Marshlands Conservancy, Route 1 (Boston Post Road), Rye – (914) 835-4466
Volunteer Work Project — 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Help beautify the hiking trails. Bring work gloves; hand tools provided.

Art Exhibit – Noon – 4 p.m.

Shop the many local vendors who offer produce and food products every Sunday through October.

Irish Heritage Festival – 1 p.m. – 5p.m.
Music and entertainment, crafts and food vendors.

Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers – (914) 864-7268
Walking Tour of Drought Tolerant Plants – 2 p.m. – 3p.m.
Join Lasdon’s horticulturist to discover plants that require very little water after they become established in the garden.
