Pelham Manor police blotter: July 8-14

Sunday, July 8th

12:17 a.m. – Received a call from a resident of Mount Tom Road, stating that there were kids outside of his residence in cars revving their engines, and that the noise of the engines was extremely loud. Officers canvassed the area; the parties were gone upon arrival.

2:58 a.m. – A 911 call was received from a resident of Boston Post Road, stating that his father had a very high fever and chills, and had just gotten out the hospital the previous day after having kidney stones. Upon officer arrival, the man restated this and also stated his father had back pain, high blood pressure, and was a diabetic. The father was transported to Lawrence Hospital for further evaluation.

12:09 p.m. – A call was received reporting a skunk acting ill at Shoreview Circle. Upon arrival, officers observed a skunk dragging its back legs, and it appeared to have been hit by a car. Two darts were used to euthanize the skunk. The darts were retrieved and the homeowner secured the animal’s remains.

7:29 p.m. – The manager of Manor Market, located at 4775 Boston Post Road, called to report a larceny that occurred about an hour prior. The manager stated that at about 6:33 p.m., an unknown male, described as a medium build black male with a mustache and beard, wearing a black t-shirt, khaki shorts, and dark sneakers, had exited the store without paying for merchandise. He placed five cases of Corona Twelve-Packs inside a shopping cart and exited the store, with a total value of $99.95. An itemized receipt for the property was obtained and secured into evidence.

8:03 p.m. – A resident of Highland Avenue called, stating that his neighbor had exterior speakers and was playing music that could be heard in parts of his residence. Upon officer arrival, the music appeared to have been turned off.

11:02 p.m. – A resident of Francis Street called, stating very loud music was playing in the area but he was unsure where it was coming from. The area was canvassed and the music unfounded.

Monday, July 9th

11:07 a.m. – A caller states that vehicles being detoured due to construction on Boston Post Road were speeding down Prospect Avenue. The area was checked, and no violations were observed.

1:25 p.m. – A caller states that there are low-hanging wires near Plymouth Street and Townsend Avenue. Officers were advised by the fire department that they were cable wires. Verizon Wireless was notified and the wires were tied off.

6:30 p.m. – A woman called, reporting that she dropped her keys down a sewer near Yumi Asian Bistro & Hibachi Steakhouse of 802 Pelham Parkway. Attempts to retrieve the keys were unsuccessful.

8:16 p.m. – A woman of Hillcrest Drive called, reporting a male party sitting across the street playing with grass, and stated that he was now on her property. Upon arrival, officers observed the man sitting against a tree. The man stated he took a bus to the area and was confused as to where he was exactly. He also stated he was experiencing pain in his left hand due to a cut he received sometime in the past. He was transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, due to the cut and his general confusion.

Tuesday, July 10th

9:40 a.m. – An officer stopped a vehicle with no rear stop lamps near Pelham Parkway and Boston Post Road. The driver was revealed to have a suspended New York non-driver ID, due to failure to answer a summons. He was arrested, processed, and ticketed for inadequate stop lamps and for aggravated unlicensed driving in the third degree. He was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in Pelham Town Court.

11:17 a.m. – A call was received, reporting a possible emotionally disturbed person in the area of Boston Post Road and Esplanade. The individual was described as a black male with dreadlocks. The area was canvassed for a party matching that description; the individual was gone on arrival.

12:47 p.m. – An officer was flagged down by construction workers on the Fulton Avenue drawbridge and notified that the Eastchester Creek water was a bright green color, possibly due to antifreeze. Westchester County Police were notified and sent a unit to investigate further.

1:53 p.m. – A report was received of an individual passed out in the area of Fowler Avenue and Boston Post Road. Upon arrival, the individual stated he had gotten dizzy and passed out. He was transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.

Wednesday, July 11th

6:39 a.m. – A resident of Hunter Avenue called, stating there was an unwanted party, his son, knocking on his door. Upon arrival, he stated to officers he did not want his son in the house. The son stated he had come to his parents’ house to collect his money back from his parents for his business that he runs. He then stated he was the owner of the residence, and advised that if he had proper paperwork and wanted his parents evicted he must take proper legal action. He then stated that if his parents did not give him his money back, he would cause serious problems for them. He then alleged that his father had an unregistered firearm in the house; when asked of its location, he stated he did not know where it was. Officers asked the father if there was a firearm in the house, to which he stated no there was not. A domestic incident report was completed.

9:09 a.m. – A call was received, reporting a worker had fainted and was in need of medical attention at Fairway Market of 847 Pelham Parkway. Upon arrival, a woman stated that she suffered from vertigo and was taking inventory on a low shelf when she stood up too quickly. She stated she fainted and struck her head on the ground. She was taken to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital for further evaluation.

12:58 p.m. – A call was received reporting a woman walking on Highbrook Avenue who appeared to be ill. Upon arrival, the woman in question stated she had a condition that made her walk in an unusual manner and that she was well and did not require assistance.

9:40 p.m. – A man of Fowler Avenue called, stating that his daughter was having a seizure. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the mother, who stated that her daughter was cleaning dishes when she passed out and struck her head. She further stated her daughter had had a seizure. A laceration to the back of the daughter’s head was observed. She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.

10:09 p.m. – A resident of Pelhamdale Avenue called, stating that there was a suspicious blue BMW parked in front of her house making excessive noise. Officers arrived and interviewed the driver, who turned out to be waiting for a friend.

Thursday, July 12th

1:35 p.m. – A man walked into the police station to report a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident. At about 10:15 a.m., he was riding his bike westbound on Shore Road at Pelhamdale Avenue when he was sideswiped by a taxi and thrown from his bicycle. The taxi continued westbound on Shore Road until he was stopped by a tow truck driver who had been traveling behind the taxi and witnessed the accident. The tow truck driver stated the taxi was driving in the same direction as the cyclist, struck him, and then attempted to flee the area. Once the tow truck driver stopped the taxi driver, the taxi driver stayed on scene for about ten minutes, continuously denying that he struck the cyclist, and then left the scene again without providing any information. The truck driver was able to take a picture of the taxi’s license plate. Photos of the cyclist’s injuries were taken, including bruises, abrasions, and a possible broken thumb. He was transported to Lawrence Hospital for medical treatment.

3:44 p.m. – Two seventeen-year-old boys went on a petit larceny spree in the Pelham Manor Shopping Plaza, stealing merchandise from Modell’s Sporting Goods, Gamestop, Marshall’s, and Five Below. The managers of both Modell’s and Gamestop called to report larcenies committed in their stores, soon to be discovered that they were committed by the same people. Both parties were arrested after such calls to PMPD; a later search of one of the boys’ backpacks revealed more stolen merchandise from Five Below and Marshall’s. The stolen merchandise was returned to the stores, itemized receipts of the merchandise placed into evidence, one boy released on $500 cash bail and due to appear in court, and the other boy transported to Westchester County Jail by Pelham Constables.

4:01 p.m. – A man walked into the police station to report that someone had scratched or keyed his vehicle. He left his vehicle parked on Penfield Place at 8:00 a.m. and returned to it at 4:00 p.m. and discovered a scratch to the passenger side rear quarter panel. He stated the scratch was not there when he parked his vehicle. He also stated that approximately two weeks prior, he parked his vehicle in the same location and the passenger side front door and front quarter panel had been scratched.

Friday, July 13th

2:28 p.m. – A resident of Washington Avenue accidentally dialed 911.

9:01 p.m. – A resident of Townsend Avenue called to report a loud party in the area. Officers were dispatched, and reported that they spoke to a nearby homeowner, who agreed to lower the music.

11:00 p.m. – An officer reported a water condition near the fire hydrant at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Prospect Avenue. He reported water was flowing from the sidewalk but not creating an issue. SUEZ water was notified.

Saturday, July 14th

11:30 a.m. – A man of Clay Avenue called, stating his wife was ill and needed to go to the hospital. Upon arrival, the wife stated she was feeling weak and could not get out of bed. She was transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. At 10:32 p.m. on July 15th, a call was received from the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office to state that she was deceased as of 10:00 p.m. on July 15th, 2018.

1:20 p.m. – A woman of Siwanoy Place called, stating her husband was on the floor and she could not get him up. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the husband, who was sitting on a couch on the first floor. He stated that while he was sitting in bed, his body began to feel numb and he fell to the floor. While on the floor he was unable to move. After several minutes he began to feel better and his wife helped him downstairs to the couch. He was transported to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.

4:10 p.m. – A man called, stating someone was using a gas-powered leaf blower on Esplanade. Responding officers observed no violations, and advised individuals at the scene of village ordinance laws.

9:47 p.m. – A man called, reporting a loud party near Roosevelt Place. Officers reported the noise was coming from a residence at Shore Road in the Bronx. The homeowner was advised to lower the music.

10:41 p.m. – Officers observed a possibly disabled vehicle at Boston Post Road and Edgewood Avenue. The vehicle was stopped partially on the curb and sidewalk and partially blocking the roadway, with apparent fresh damage to the driver’s side front quarter panel, headlight, door, and body of the engine. Upon interviewing the 26-year-old driver, she appeared to be disoriented, there was an odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath, her eyes were glassy, and her speech was slurred. She admitted to having three alcoholic drinks and to taking “CBD oil” earlier that day. She was unable to open the driver’s side door due to damage to the vehicle and was instructed to climb out the driver’s side window by officers. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests, having to rest her hand on the vehicle to balance herself. She was arrested for driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of alcohol and drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor in New York State, processed, and released to her boyfriend upon the posting of $100 bail.
