John Joseph Platt – July 13

John Joseph Platt of Pelham, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018. He was 87 years old.

Born in the Bronx to John Platt and Annette Glod, John was one of two children. He attendedĀ  James Monroe High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy to serve in the Korean War.

Upon his return, John would meet his wife of 61 years MaryAnn Michaels. They met at a local candy store and would later marry at Blessed Sacrament Church on Nov. 3, 1956. They would live and raise their son John Jr. in the Parkchester area of the Bronx before eventually moving to Pelham in 1989.

John worked as a banker in First Federal & Savings Bank of N.Y. He retired as senior vice president after 27 years of service. In his spare time he was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed spending time both fishing and boating at City Island, New Rochelle and at his second home in Montauk. John and MaryAnn’s favorite vacation was annual trips to Aruba for over 30 years. John was a past president of the Kiwanis Club and a member of the American Legion. He will be remembered as fun loving and hardworking gentleman who loved his family, especially his grand-daughter Nicole.

John is survived by his wife MaryAnn, his son John and his grand-daughter Nicole. He is predeceased by his sister Helen Sorenson.

A celebration of John’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham, N.Y., on Monday, July 16, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at St. Catharine’s Church, located at 25 Second Ave., Pelham, N.Y., on Tuesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
