FRIDAY, JULY 20: Outdoor Screening of Back to the Future

This Friday, families are invited to John Jay Homestead for an outdoor screening of the 1980s sci-fi classic Back to the Future. A small-town teen, Marty McFly, is accidentally thrust thirty years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown goes awry. SATURDAY, JULY 21: Ceramic Artists Explore What It Means To Be American

Clay Art Center presents an opening reception for US, the third of four themed exhibits that feature artists whose works examine social justice issues. This exhibition of ceramic works, on view through September 15, explores the concept of what it is to be an American. Social and political issues will be touched upon by ceramic artists through their works. Begins at 6pm.

TUESDAY, JULY 24: A Celebration of Native American Heritage

This summer, New Rochelle Public Library’s “International Music and Dance” series embraces diverse traditions through the artistic customs of various cultures. The series will continue on Tuesday with performing artists from Redhawk Native American Arts Council, who will educate audiences, in full regalia, about Native American heritage through song, dance, theater and audience participation. Begins at 7pm.

THURSDAY, JULY 26: An Evening of Experimental Video Art

On Thursday, Peekskill Film Festival and Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) present BLACKOUT, a screening of short films that reinterpret the stage as a site of catharsis, self-reflection and political action. The program takes its title from the theatrical term “blackout,” when the lights go dark between acts and the audience becomes temporarily blind as the set transforms. The films are inspired by narratives about gender, artifice, race discomfort and socio-political realities. Begins at 7pm at HVCCA.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 27: The Music of Ray Charles Comes to New Rochelle

On Wednesday, New Rochelle Council on the Arts continues its Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series with Forever Ray. This tribute band performs the music of Ray Charles, with songs ranging from jazz and blues to country and R&B. Begins at 7:30pm at the Hudson Park Bandshell.
