Dear Friends and Neighbors,

To help protect themselves and the people they serve and care for, the Westchester County Department of Health encourages restaurant and childcare workers to register for a free Hepatitis A vaccine at one of two County clinics, to be held Saturday and Tuesday in White Plains.

Clinic hours are Saturday, Aug. 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 14, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 134 Court St., White Plains. To schedule an appointment, go towww.health.ny.gov/gotoclinic/60.

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection that can spread when a person who is infected with the virus fails to practice good hand hygiene after using the toilet, and then handles food and beverages served to others. A person who is infected can spread the virus without being aware of his or her infection.

Anyone who gets a first Hepatitis A vaccine at these clinics will need a second dose of vaccine at least six months later. Those who do not have health insurance coverage for this vaccine can make an appointment for the second dose at a Westchester County immunization clinic.

Sincerely,

Terry Clements
