William P. Hynes – Aug. 18

Born in Brooklyn to Edmond and Katherine (Walsh) Hynes, William was one of two children. He was raised in Brooklyn, where he attended St. Vincent De Paul Elementary School before graduating from Bishop Laughlin High School. After graduating, William was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. While serving in the army, William had the opportunity to further his study and love for numbers. He would later graduate from New York University with a Masters in Accounting.

William would later meet his wife of 57 years, Ann Francis Burke. It was love at first sight. They met in Spring Lake, N.J., and would marry the following year on July 22, 1961. The couple would later move to Pelham, where they would raise their children John and Thomas. William worked as chairman of the business department at Bronx Community College. He also did accountancy and tax work for his many friends while working at Bronx Community College and right into his retirement.

In his spare time, William loved to spend time at the track. He was a racing enthusiast and loved taking his family to the race track. He studied horses in great depth, and his love for numbers was a great help when he would wager. William also loved cruises, dancing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. William had a strong faith and was a lector at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

William will be remembered as a hardworking gentleman. He was generous, loving, honest and enthusiastic about life and all things sport. He was his kids’ biggest fan and loved watching them play sports as they grew up.

William is survived by his wife, Ann Francis; his son, John (Karen) Hynes; his daughter-in-law, Carolyne, and his grandchildren Luke, Aidan and Olivia. He will be missed by his extended family and close friends. William is predeceased by his son, Thomas, and his younger brother, Edward.
