Mary Gallina – Dec. 1

Mary Gallina of Pelham passed away on Dec. 1, 2018. She was 82 years old. She was born on the Lower Eastside of Manhattan and grew up in the Bronx, New York, on East 187st Street. She lived directly across the street from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Daughter of the late Domenico and Mary Cuccia. The widow of Nicholas Gallina. The love of her life. They were happily married for over 20 years. Nicholas was an artist.

Mary is survived by her brother, Anthony, and sister, Ann. Her nephews, Anthony, Bobby, John, Dominick and Charlie. Grandnephews Nicholas, Sebastian and Christian. Grandnieces Laura, Emma and Gia.

Mary retired from the Veterans Administration. She was a secretary to the chaplain’s office at the VA Hospital on Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx. Mary will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She loved music, theater, travel, dining out and the arts. She sang in the choir at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pelham. She always spoke of how proud she was to belong to the choir. Mary was very social and belonged to many senior organizations in the Pelham area. One organization she belonged to was the Pelham Women’s Club.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave. in Pelham, New York. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Ave., Pelham Manor. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
